South Carolina.

South Carolina saw flurry of activity from potential 2008 presidential candidates. Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee headlined a fundraiser for the state GOP, while Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist of Tennessee delivered the keynote speech at the state convention of the South Carolina Federation of Republican Women. Several GOP contenders, such as Sen. John McCain of Arizona and Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, plan to attend fund-raisers for county GOP parties in early 2006. State GOP Chairman Katon Dawson reiterated his intention to hold the first-in-the-South primary in 2008. Outgoing Virginia Gov. Mark Warner received widespread praise from prominent Democrats after headlining a state party fund-raiser in Charleston.
