Souness sacks his Dell No.2.
He sacked long-serving Lew Chatterley on his first day in charge at The Dell - and brought in Phil Boersma who worked with him at Ibrox, Liverpool and Galatasaray.
Southampton chairman Guy Askham said: "When Graeme arrived at the club last week he told us he wanted to bring in his own team of people.
"We have no problem with that and we are happy to allow him to use his judgement."
Souey's former Anfield team-mate Sammy Lee - who also played with Saints - is expected to be the next new appointment.
But chairman Askham insists their new boss has no plans to fire joint assistant manager John Mortimore or youth development officer Stewart Henderson.
Meanwhile, Wimbledon hitman Dean Holdsworth could be the new Dell chief's first signing.
Souness is said to be lining up a pounds 3million swoop.
