Soundproofing design services contract awarded to Wyle Labs.


LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 17, 1997--The Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  Board of Airport Commissioners awarded a contract Tuesday to Wyle Laboratories Wyle Laboratories, Inc. is a privately held provider of specialized engineering, scientific and technical services to the Department of Defense, NASA, and a variety of commercial customers primarily in the aerospace industry.  of El Segundo El Segundo (ĕl sēgŭn`dō), industrial city (1990 pop. 15,223), Los Angeles co., S Calif., on Santa Monica Bay; inc. 1917. Its products include navigation and computer systems, aircraft parts, office machines, telephone apparatus, and , Calif., for the second phase acoustical and architectural design services for the LAX residential soundproofing Soundproofing is any means of reducing the intensity of sound with respect to a specified source and receptor. There are several basic approaches to reducing sound: increasing the distance between source and receiver, using noise barriers to block or absorb the energy of the sound  program.

The $1,170,000 contract will provide for complete acoustical design services to approximately 600 local residences.

The residential soundproofing program includes 8,900 eligible residences in the Los Angeles communities of Westchester and Playa playa

In addition to acoustical design services, Wyle will provide noise measurements to rate the reduction of noise in residences before and after the insulation modifications have been installed. As the program proceeds Wyle will also assist with construction bid packages and provide dwelling inspection training to city inspectors.

Following the award of contract, Los Angeles Sixth District Councilmember Ruth Galanter, in whose district the airport is located, commented, "This is an important program for the community, and I am pleased to see it proceeding quickly."

The soundproofing program is administered by the Los Angeles World Airports Residential Soundproofing Bureau.
