Sound Vision Digital Imaging Reference Design Delivers First VGA Digital Camera and TV Based Docking Station; TV Centric Device Expands Digital Camera Market To Millions Of Households Without A PC.

Business Editors & High Tech Writers

WAYLAND, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 23, 2001

Sound Vision Inc., a cutting-edge developer of versatile integrated circuits and production-ready designs for a new generation of consumer electronics products, today announced a digital camera and TV docking station that allows users to take pictures, view them on the TV, and store them on inexpensive, universally available floppy disks without having to use a computer.

The product combines a fully-functional VGA (Video Graphics Array) The display standard for the PC. All PC display adapters support VGA, and Windows machines boot up in "VGA mode" before switching to higher resolutions.  digital camera and docking station with a 3.5 inch floppy disk drive floppy disk drive - disk drive  that connects easily to any TV.

Sound Vision's VGA digital camera and TV docking station reference design, which is available to manufacturers now, is the latest in a series of digital imaging and audio products based on their CLARITY programmable ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) Pronounced "a-sick." A chip that is custom designed for a specific application rather than a general-purpose chip such as a microprocessor. . Sound Vision's kits enable Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and brand marketers to greatly accelerate product delivery while substantially lowering development costs. "To date, participation in the digital imaging market has been limited to only a portion of the US population due to the need for a PC to view, share and store digital images. Products like TV Cam will help to broaden the scope and heighten the appeal of the digital imaging market, by expanding the experience from the PC only, to the TV," says Chris Chute, research analyst for digital cameras and scanners for IDC. "By allowing users to share, upload, archive and view their images via a TV, the digital imaging industry opens itself up to almost all of the US population."

A complete design kit unit consists of a Sound Vision V1 VGA dual-mode digital camera, a set-top docking station, and cables to easily connect to any NTSC (National TV Standards Committee) The committee that developed the television standards for the U.S, which are also used in Canada, Japan, South Korea and several Central and South American countries. Both the committee and the standard are called "NTSC.  or PAL TV. Users simply take pictures and dock the camera in the docking station. Pictures stored in the camera memory appear on the TV screen. "Time-to-market and innovation are the most important concerns of our customers today," said Bob Caspe, Sound Vision Chairman.
