 suspense as Oz tells his plight in letters to his father, who has died a few years before. There is no one else Oz can trust with the truth. It all starts when a man Oz can't stand moves in and persuades Oz's grief-stricken mother to marry him. The ghastly ghast·ly

 plagues Oz and when evidence is uncovered that appears to show that Oz is in trouble with the law, the stepfather orchestrates Oz's removal to a special camp in the swamps of Florida that deals with troubled youth. No one believes Oz's protestations of innocence and even his mother believes they are doing the right thing to send Oz to reform.

Here's where the conspiracy gets intricate, and I certainly won't give it away, but I will say all those who like a YA version of Jack Bauer Jack Bauer is the protagonist of the American television series 24, in which he has trained and worked in various capacities as a government agent, including US Army Delta Force, LAPD SWAT, and finally the Counter Terrorist Unit (CTU) Los Angeles.  in 24 will stick with this page-turner, even if some of the details (as in 24) don't stand up to close examination. Who cares, really, if Oz is amazingly capable and strong, adjusting to changing dire circumstances as needed as needed prn. See prn order. . And to have as the bad guys all the officious of·fi·cious
