Soon out on DVD: nonprofit staff gone wild.

Although the summer was a mild one for the northeast, the heat was on for several not-so charitable nonprofit staff.

A Stoneham, Mass. woman will be serving three years in federal prison for embezzling approximately $350,000 over six years from her--do we even need to say it--former employer, Children's Glaucoma Foundation.

While working as a secretary and administrative assistant to the Boston-based charity, Karen Sicher forged at least 61 checks, embezzled funds, and, like any good criminal, opted against reporting the stolen funds to the IRS. On the bright side, Sicher earns marks for style and taste, as she reportedly used the money to pay for clothes and trips to Brazil and Nova Scotia. But wait, there's more.

The sleepy town of Greenville, N.H., population 2,224, awoke to scandal when Linda Bevins, of the even sleepier town of Deering, was accused of stealing $1.3 million from her former nonprofit employer.

According to Bevins herself, who was diagnosed with cancer in 1999, the stress of working as a payroll supervisor for the Crotched Mountain Foundation was too much to handle. "If I didn't have the stress, maybe I wouldn't have gotten sick and wouldn't have had the bills and maybe (the stealing) wouldn't have ever started," she reportedly said.

Bevins said she used $200,000 of the money to pay for medical bills for her cancer treatments. But what of the remaining money? While most would be sympathetic to Bevins' situation, that changes when you find out that she allegedly she squandered $1.1 million--charitable dollars--on vacations and on her daughter's wedding, which included a custom-made gown, is outrageous.
