Sony introduces 20-inch Trinitron Graphic Display for color-sensitive computer graphics applications.

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 7, 1995--Reinforcing its commitment to imaging and graphics professionals, Sony Electronics Sony Electronics Inc., headquartered in San Diego, Calif., is the largest component of Sony Corporation of America, the U.S. holding company for Sony's U.S.-based electronics and entertainment businesses.  today introduced the MultiscanTC Trinitron Color Graphic Display.

The new 20-inch true color reference monitor, with a viewable image area of 19.1 inches, minimizes guess-work typically associated with matching color output to on-screen on·screen or on-screen

image. The MultiscanTC display performs to the high standards in quality, color accuracy and correction demanded in color-intensive applications, such as computer graphics, computerized electronic prepress, film and video production and publishing.

This new monitor's array of features enhances creative control, allowing users to make critical color decisions themselves, instead of relying on outside vendors. Advanced features and capabilities such as beam current feedback, digital uniformity compensation, and on-screen color temperature selection enhance maximum color fidelity and stability for accurate, consistent color reproduction. Once adjusted to customized conditions, the new Sony monitor maintains its color settings.

"Any corporate or small business professional who spends long hours trying to adjust monitor colors or who is out-sourcing work to expensive third-party publishers will easily see the creative and bottom-line advantages of the MultiscanTC monitor," said Treg Tyler, marketing manager, Graphic Display Products, Sony Electronics' Component and Computer Products Group.

The display incorporates a beam current feedback (BCF BCF Billion Cubic Feet

) system that controls color stability by measuring the consistency of the phosphors which helps ensure that the display's white and black levels are constant and stable. BCF enables the monitor to accurately reproduce colors from the exact moment it is turned on -- eliminating the need for warm-up or calibration.

) feature enhances color consistency throughout the image by matching the color and brightness of areas on the periphery of the screen with the color and brightness of areas in the center. The supplied RGB (Red Green Blue) The computer's native color space, which is the color system for capturing and displaying images. RGB was derived from our own perception of color because human eyes are sensitive to red, green and blue (see trichromaticity).  sensor adjusts the image according to color and brightness data on 81 points (9 x 9 grid) across the entire screen to display an accurate, uniform image.

Users also benefit from precise on-screen color temperature controls. They are able to select preset temperatures of 3000-, 5000-, 6500- and 9300-degrees Kelvin, plus make critical color adjustments in 100-degree steps.

The MultiscanTC display is compatible with Apple ColorSync 1.0, when used with TCware software that was developed by and is available through Sony. The optional software creates a display device profile for an individual monitor, allowing it to be configured into an Apple Color Management System Software that translates the colors of an original image into the truest representation obtainable on the output device. Color management works from a profile of the output device, typically a digital printer or offset press, and works backward to the source of the material such as a . This software also lets the user control monitor operations remotely from a personal computer.

The new monitor is fully compliant with Energy Star, TCO (1) (Total Cost of Ownership) The cost of using a computer. It includes the cost of the hardware, software and upgrades as well as the cost of the inhouse staff and/or consultants that provide training and technical support. Like all current-generation Sony computer displays, the MultiscanTC display features Digital Multiscan technology, delivering precise, automatic distortion correction across a continuous range of scanning frequencies. The monitor's Super Fine Pitch Super Fine Pitch CRT provides better image detail with high definition sources, improved picture quality, and better edge detail for both moving and still images. No visible vertical lines.  Trinitron CRT (1) (C RunTime) See runtime library.

provides a high-contrast, well-focused picture with a resolution of up to 1280 x 1024 on a PC and 1152 x 870 on the Macintosh, allowing details to be viewed with impressive clarity. The monitor has a horizontal scanning frequency of 31.5 to 85 kHz and a vertical scanning frequency of 50 to 150 Hz, making it flexible enough for most computer platforms.

The MultiscanTC Trinitron Color Graphics Display is currently available through computer resellers and distributors at suggested list price of $3,950.
