Sony Introduces New 2.2-Pound 3-CCD DVCAM Camcorder.


PARK RIDGE, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 26, 1998--Sony's newest DVCAM Sony's version of the DV (Digital Video) tape technology. DVCAM improves quality by increasing the tape speed from 18.8mm/sec to 28.2mm/sec. It also increases track width from 10 to 15 microns for added reliability. (tm) camcorder, the DSR-PD100, for use in applications ranging from electronic journalism to event videography, is distinguished by three new low-smear 1/4" CCDs (380,000 picture elements) with 550 TV lines of resolution The number of horizontal lines on a TV or computer screen. The term typically refers to TV sets; for example, wide screen digital TVs have 720 or 1,080 lines of resolution, while analog TV uses 525 lines. VHS tapes can render from 240 to 260 lines.  in a light-weight, handheld package.

With 4 lux minimum illumination and the ability to shoot in 16:9 or 4:3 mode, the digital camcorder is a versatile video acquisition tool.
