Smart phones have changed the way one perceives an ordinary mobile phone. Most among these new breed of devices works upon Symbian based operating systems, letting you put useful, fun and powerful functions and tools. This way, one can get much more from his smartphone by downloading applications to aid one''s business or leisure.

Being marketed as a strong office and connectivity tool, the Sony Ericsson P990i is obviously loaded with the latest premium features. The handset is at home with video calling and other such 3G functions like high speed mobile internet connectivity. In absence of 3G networks, one can fall back to traditional ways of data connectivity ? class 10 GPRS.

After all, the Sony Ericsson P990i is a 3G business solution. This smartphone is not among the slimmest with dimensions reading 114 x 57 x 26 mm. The device weighs a robust 150 grams, thus giving an impression of its durability. First thing one would notice in the Sony Ericsson P990i is its rich TFT based touchscreen.

First thing one would notice in the Sony Ericsson P990i is its rich TFT based touchscreen. The handset features a smart flip which houses the numeric keys. But when you open it, a full set of QWERTY keypad is found underneath it. The device boasts of Handwriting Recognition so that you can instantly scribble minutes on the Sony Ericsson P990i just like that on your note pad.

Realising the success of this new form of communication, Sony Ericsson released further models with even more features and technology. The next model to appear was the Sony Ericsson P900 followed by the P910 and more recently the P990i.

More to the point, it will be the first mobile phone to utilise the new Window Mobile 6.1 Professional Operating System, which already gives it a head start over its rivals that use version 6, although Windows Mobile 6.1 hasn''t even been officially announced yet, so what differences the new version offers over the old remains to be seen.

But for now, suffice to say they''re one of the big boys, with one of the most instantly recognizable names in the mobile world.

In one word, if I had to describe the Sony Ericsson P1, it would be: stunning! Based around the Symbian UIQ3 interface, with a full touchscreen, and QWERTY keyboard, it''s very clear that this phone is designed to be more than just a phone. the best way to think of it would be as a computer in your hand.

Probably the most successful Sony Ericsson mobile phone line up is the Walkman series. In an age when mobile users were still dabbling with polyphonic or even Mp3 ringtones, Sony Ericsson came up with Walkman phones ? a line up of fully evolved music mobile phone. Walkman created a rage especially among the young mobile phone users that refuse to subside even today. Taking advantage of the reputation of the Walkman brand, Sony Ericsson now are virtually ruling the music mobile scene.
