Sony Electronics Sony Electronics Inc., headquartered in San Diego, Calif., is the largest component of Sony Corporation of America, the U.S. holding company for Sony's U.S.-based electronics and entertainment businesses.  today announced the VAIO (Video Audio Integrated Operation) Sony's trade name for its desktop and laptop PCs. In mid-1998, Sony introduced its 505G series of subnotebooks that were the first in ultra-thin Pentium portables. (R) PCG-SR27 notebook PC with the new Intel(R) Pentium(R) III 750MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. Mobility, Performance and Power

About one-inch thin and weighing less than three pounds, the SR27 is designed to meet the performance and power needs of the user who's never in one place. The new unit's mobile Pentium See Pentium M.  III 750 MHz(1) low voltage processor, combined with Intel's SpeedStep(TM) technology, allows for seamless switching of clock frequency and voltage to deliver high performance and extended battery power.

The new model is equipped with a 30GB(2) hard drive, 128MB SDRAM (Synchronous DRAM) A type of dynamic RAM (DRAM) memory chip that has been widely used since the late 1990s. SDRAM chips eliminated wait states by dividing the chip into two cell blocks and interleaving data between them.  and a MagicGate(TM) Memory Stick(R) media slot for quick, high capacity storage of music, video, digital images and other data.

A Flexible and Versatile Computing Tool

The SR27 notebook PC features an extended-life lithium-ion battery Lithium-ion batteries (sometimes abbreviated Li-ion batteries) are a type of rechargeable battery commonly used in consumer electronics. The new SR notebook PC comes with a full suite of business and entertainment applications, including Sony MovieShaker(TM) movie making software, which enables users to easily produce digital home movies and music videos.

Also included is Sony PictureGear(TM) software to help manage digital content like panoramic photographs, as well as Sony DVgate(TM) software to help capture full motion digital video and still photography for multimedia presentations or video e-mail.

The SR27 ships next month with Microsoft(R) Windows(R) Millennium Edition for about $1,999, or with Windows(R) 2000 Professional for approximately $2,099.
