Sonus Networks Expands Membership in Open Services Partner Alliance; OpenCon Systems and RADVision Join OSPA; Alliance Participation Grows to Nearly 20 Industry-Leading Vendors.

The newest members of the OSPA bring to the Alliance considerable experience in the key areas of Operations Support System (OSS Oss (ôs), city (1994 pop. 62,141), North Brabant prov., S Netherlands; chartered 1399. With nearly 20 participating vendors, the OSPA allows carriers, application services providers, third-party independent service developers (ISDs) and telephony system software providers to rapidly develop and deliver competitive customer services and applications based on the Sonus Networks Open Services Architecture The Open Service Access or OSA is part of the 3rd generation mobile telecommunications network or UMTS. OSA describes how services are architected in an UMTS network.

The standards for OSA are being developed as part of the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP).

Sonus' work with OpenCon Systems will help ensure interoperability with carriers' OSS. OpenCon's standards-compliant Billing Mediation Platform A billing mediation platform is a system used to convert datatypes of a certain type to other datatypes, usually for billing purposes. They are used mostly by telephone companies, who typically need to process UDRs (Usage Detail Records).  and TMN (Telecommunications Management Network) A set of international standards for network management from the ITU. It is used by large carriers such as Sprint, Verizon and AT&T.  Gateway protocol mediator will interwork with the Sonus Element Management System (EMS) to help carriers seamlessly manage their new IP networks as well as their legacy systems. This will allow for immediate deployment and billing of new services.

For participating partners, the OSPA provides open, published APIs, comprehensive developer tools, testing and support services, technology exchanges and co-marketing and sales activities. Equally important, the alliance provides a unified customer/vendor forum for creating interoperable standards and technologies.
