Sonoma College Announces Agreement with FDNY; FDNY to Offer Distance Learning Degree Program in Homeland Readiness and Emergency Management.

As part of the agreement, Sonoma will provide FDNY's members the opportunity to achieve advanced standing in Sonoma's HREM Program by awarding transfer credit from Sonoma for their already- completed NYC NYC

 Fire Academy training and for Fire Department courses that are recognized by the American Council on Education Established in 1918, the American Council on Education (ACE) is a United States organization comprising over 1,800 accredited, degree-granting colleges and universities and higher education-related associations, organizations, and corporations.  (ACE) Guide. As part of the agreement, the FDNY will also endorse the HREM Degree Program to its current and retired employees. Additionally, FDNY and Sonoma College developed content and curriculum specific to the HREM Program.

Dr. Victor Herbert, FDNY Dean of Instruction said, "Sonoma College is one of a few colleges willing to recognize the quality of the FDNY training from probationary school and beyond, offering direct credit for courses taken in the academies. In addition, Sonoma offers deep advanced standing for outside college work, ACE/PONSI ACE/PONSI American Council On Education/Program On Noncollegiate Sponsored Instruction , CLEP/DANTES and other educational experiences. Each individual will bring more or less credit potential with them, but Sonoma has made it clear that they intend to maximize the opportunity in their Homeland Readiness and Emergency Management degree programs. The fact that the courses are all available online further meets the need of emergency responders whose tours extend beyond that of a traditional student. This may be just what many FDNY personnel have been waiting for to advance their education."
