. Mediasite VL400 represents a major industry breakthrough for organizations that previously were limited to capturing the audio and video on video tape without the ability to include the visuals shared during video conferences.

"The AV industry has been waiting for a product like Mediasite VL400 for a long time," said Joe Mendonca, streaming technology specialist, HB Communications. "This product immediately extends the value of existing video conferencing systems by creating a fast and easy way to record, time-shift and share complete meeting information. It's analogous to what digital video recorders See DVR.  (DVR's) do for the television viewing experience, only, in this case, the end user is creating and preserving valuable enterprise content while boosting communication effectiveness and efficiency."

Available as a rack-mount or tabletop unit, Mediasite VL400 is designed to reside at any enterprise video conferencing system endpoint. It automatically captures and synchronizes in real time the audio, video and all supporting visual content -- including annotations -- presented during a video conference. The complete conference is instantly available for live or on-demand playback with no special processing or post-production required. Conferences can be streamed via the Web for live and on-demand desktop access, or recorded and burned to a CD for offline viewing and archiving.

Mediasite VL400 is a significant addition to the company's Mediasite line of awarding-winning real-time rich media communications systems In telecommunication, a communications system is a collection of individual communications networks, transmission systems, relay stations, tributary stations, and data terminal equipment (DTE) usually capable of interconnection and interoperation to form an integrated whole. . Historically, customers wanting to provide secondary access to video conference sessions over the Web have been limited with their options. Mediasite VL400 eliminates many of the IT and cost constraints by providing real-time capture and streaming of video conferencing sessions to remote desktops. Web-based participants can interact live via Mediasite's instant messaging Exchanging text messages in real time between two or more people logged into a particular instant messaging (IM) service. Instant messaging is more interactive than e-mail because messages are sent immediately, whereas e-mail messages can be queued up in a mail server for seconds or  and polling capabilities, or watch the archive of the conference proceedings in its entirety.

"During the past year or so, the market has demonstrated a strong interest in video conferencing communications with the added visual presentation component," explained Ira Weinstein, senior analyst and consultant at Wainhouse Research. "The ability to record and stream these conferences, including all presentation materials, takes the value proposition one step further by providing interested parties with convenient access to meeting content."

"Mediasite VL400 is the perfect complementary peripheral to the large installed base of video conferencing systems and represents the continued optimization of Mediasite for enterprise and AV applications," said James Dias, vice president of marketing and sales for Sonic Foundry. "It is the direct result of our collaboration with customers and integrators who asked for an alternative to the current methods of recording, which are generally very limiting and of poor quality. Now with Mediasite VL400, every video conferencing system becomes an even more effective visual communications tool, enabling organizations to reach beyond their conferencing rooms."

Based on the exclusive real-time rich media technology in Sonic Foundry's flagship Mediasite presentation recorders, the new Mediasite VL400 gives corporate, education, healthcare and government organizations unmatched ease and flexibility in recording and distributing rich media content from their video conferencing systems.
