Some properties of newsprint impregnated with polyvinylamine.

Application: This paper asses some of the performance characteristics of a newly available surface-strengthening polymer for newsprint newsprint

low grade paper used for newspapers. Old newspapers are fed to cattle as an alternative roughage and may occasionally be ingested by dogs. Significant amounts of lead are accumulated in tissues; no cases of poisoning have been recorded in cattle, though it has been

For both the yellowing and the brightness problems, there are commercially available solutions, but the problems of printing characteristics are yet to be overcome. Printing involves exposing the sheet to moisture, which can damage the surface.

In this work, we considered the potential of polyvinylamine for strengthening the surfaces of newsprint and related paper grades. We chose to treat sheets that were entirely impregnated im·preg·nate

Wet strength did not decrease with soaking time, indicating a permanent character to the improvement. Drying impregnated sheets both at room temperature and at 120[degrees]C gave similar strength improvements.
