Some Therapists Will Be A Better Match than Others

When you''ve decided to look into marriage, couples or family counseling, one of the things that you''re going to need to do is to find the right therapist However, as soon as you start looking into different therapists, you''re going to realize that there are some therapists who you feel that you could work well with and other therapists that simply don''t seem to be a great match

When you''ve decided to look into marriage, couples or family counseling, one of the things that you''re going to need to do is to find the right therapist. However, as soon as you start looking into different therapists, you''re going to realize that there are some therapists who you feel that you could work well with and other therapists that simply don''t seem to be a great match.

There''s one simple reality at work here: therapists are people too. When you''re looking into therapists, you''re going to find that some have personalities that don''t mesh well with your own and you''re even likely to find that some therapists are going to have offices that are more comfortable to you than others. Because of this, it''s important to be sure that, when you''re looking at therapists you have a sense of what type of person you want to work with.

For example, you may find that while some therapists are licensed social workers while others have masters degrees and have specialized in working with families. When you''re looking at therapists, it can be easy to get caught up in these details, however, what you are likely to find is that sometimes qualifications are not the most important thing to think about.

Instead of looking only at therapists who have a particular degree or even those who attended a particular school that has a great reputation, when you are looking for therapists who provide family counseling or couples or marriage counseling, focus more on looking at the services that they provide. Look too at the statement that different therapists make about their practices; you can tell a lot about whether or not a therapist is likely to be a good match by developing an understanding of why he or she has made the choice to practice.

However, if you find that you are mostly looking into therapists who have web sites or you are looking for recommendations from either friends or relatives or even health care providers, there''s one thing that you''re going to want to do: you''re going to want to pick up the phone. The only way that you will really be able to learn about whether a therapist is someone who will be a good match for your situation is to have a conversation with him or her.

To an extent, you are going to want to take the time to interview therapists, to take the time to discuss what you''re looking for and to talk about your concerns. Therapists who are unwilling to meet with you and to get to know you a bit are not going to be the best match for you. Don''t be afraid to ask questions. Take the time to do your research and, when you''re looking for counseling to improve your marriage or relationship, be sure to find a therapist who both you and your spouse are comfortable with.

Therapists are not miracle workers and they will not solve your problems for you. However, working with the right therapist is an essential part of getting from where you are to where you want to be. acp13243546ch
