SolidWorks Expands Engineering Education Initiative in South China.Business/Technology Editors CONCORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 28, 2002 South China Education Initiative Brings 245 Seats of Software to Eight Universities in Industrial and Manufacturing Economies SolidWorks Corp. today announced the SolidWorks South China Education Initiative, a program that expands three-dimensional computer-aided design computer-aided design (CAD) or computer-aided design and drafting (CADD), form of automation that helps designers prepare drawings, specifications, parts lists, and other design-related elements using special graphics- and calculations-intensive (3D CAD) learning in university classrooms throughout South China. SolidWorks Corp. has partnered with eight universities to bring 245 seats of SolidWorks(R) software into their curricula, and prepare thousands of students for well-paying engineering and design jobs in the powerful manufacturing markets in South China. The initiative's goal is to provide professional training and development to the university instructors, who in turn will help their students gain mechanical engineering jobs in the region's fast growing industrial economy. The SolidWorks South China Education Initiative will help university students learn 3D CAD technology and give them the hands-on experience they'll draw on in their professional careers. SolidWorks' Windows-based environment is intuitive, and easier to learn than competing CAD technologies with more complex user interfaces. Students spend less time learning to use the design tool and more time developing their design and engineering skills. The eight universities will use SolidWorks to teach students how to design products for the plastics, sheet metal, and machine design industries. Their designs will end up in everything from toasters to automobiles. "This strategic initiative is a testament to our commitment to give university students in South China the preparation they'll need to find good jobs and become important players in the region's thriving industrial economy," said Professor Liu You He, director of the industrial training center at South China University of Technology South China University of Technology (SCUT) is a Chinese university located in Guangzhou, capital of the Guangdong province in mainland China. In 1999, SCUT ranked No. 23 among Asia's Best Universities by Asiaweek[1]. in Guangzhou. "Since SolidWorks software is easy to learn, students begin designing projects earlier and have a chance to develop more important skills for their careers." This is SolidWorks' second education initiative to bring 3D CAD technology to Chinese universities in the past year. SolidWorks recently worked with the China Education Association of Mechanical Engineering (CEAME) in Shanghai to bring 123 seats of SolidWorks software to students from 12 universities in the region. "South China's thriving industrial and manufacturing economy offers exciting challenges and opportunities to graduates in the region," said Rosanne Kramer, director of worldwide education markets for SolidWorks. "We're delighted to collaborate with our academic and community partners in Guangdong (the province for all the schools) to help prepare today's engineering design students for a promising future." Faculty from the eight universities will receive training from Intelligent CAD/CAM CAD/CAM in full computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing.
