Softway Systems announces agreement with Digital Equipment Corp. to market OpenNT on Alpha platforms; UNIX market to gain immediate access to Windows NT on Alpha with OpenNT.


SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 27, 1996--Softway Systems, Inc., developer of OpenNT for Microsoft(R) Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking. , today announced OpenNT for Digital Equipment Corp.'s Alpha-based Windows NT platforms.

Softway Systems - Digital Agreement

The agreement between Softway Systems and Digital means that Digital will now be able to resell OpenNT for Alpha-based systems. Digital will market OpenNT through strategic partners and on existing and future U.S. federal government awarded contracts. Softway will also sell the Alpha versions of OpenNT products through its worldwide distribution partners.

Additionally, the agreement provides for joint marketing of the Alpha-OpenNT solution to large corporate customers, integrators and government customers.

Softway Systems will be make three products available on Digital's Alpha platform over the next 45 days.

-- OpenNT Commands and Utilities is a UNIX-style operating system environment including command shells and the full set of utilities conforming to the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, New York, www.ieee.org) A membership organization that includes engineers, scientists and students in electronics and allied fields.  POSIX.2 Execution Environment Utilities standard. The product allows multiple users to log into a Windows NT server over intranet and internet connections from remote workstations and terminals.
