Software Technologies Enhances GUI-based Middleware.ARCADIA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 25, 1997-- Interactive Definition of Interfaces, Rules and Formats Reduces Barriers to Enterprisewide Integration of Applications Software Technologies Corp. (STC STC Supplemental Type Certificate (FAA) STC Society for Technical Communication STC Subject to Change STC Surf the Channel (website) STC Sound Transmission Class STC Singapore Turf Club ), a leading provider of mission-critical, application-linking software, Friday announced the immediate availability of DataGate 3.5, the latest release of STC's high-end middleware product. DataGate addresses the critical requirement of linking applications and systems -- independent of platform, data format, network or communications protocol -- so that information can be exchanged: cost-effectively, efficiently, immediately. Installed at more than 700 locations worldwide, DataGate currently is providing enterprisewide messaging solutions into multiple markets: e-commerce, health services, financial services and others. SuperClient Extends DataGate's Ease-of-Use Features Through features such as on-line, graphical definition of message transformation, formatting and routing, DataGate dramatically reduces -- often by 90 percent or more -- the development and maintenance costs compared with connecting each independent application individually using conventional point-to-point interconnection approaches. Included with DataGate 3.5 is STC's newly announced SuperClient. Now nontechnical users are able to configure formerly complex interconnections between DataGate and their applications through an intuitive, graphical interface implemented in Java. ``We're already widely acknowledged as having the most robust, high-performance core technology in the messaging middleware industry, and now we're making DataGate far easier to use,'' stated James T. Demetriades, president of STC. ``By adding SuperClient to DataGate's intuitive GUI (Graphical User Interface) A graphics-based user interface that incorporates movable windows, icons and a mouse. The ability to resize application windows and change style and size of fonts are the significant advantages of a GUI vs. a character-based interface. capabilities, we've made a quantum leap in usability! Also, our core messaging technology has been enhanced, increasing our already-strong support for most standard messaging formats, such as X12, S.W.I.F.T., HL7, EDIFACT (Electronic Data Interchange For Administration Commerce and Transport) An ISO standard for electronic data interchange (EDI) that was proposed to supersede both X12 and TRADACOMS as the worldwide standard. See EDI. , AL3 and DICOM (medical, standard) DICOM - (From Digital Imaging and COmmunications in Medicine) A standard developed by ACR-NEMA (American College of Radiology - National Electrical Manufacturer's Association) for communications between medical imaging devices. .'' DataGate is highly scalable and runs on Windows NT and a wide range of UNIX UNIX Operating system for digital computers, developed by Ken Thompson of Bell Laboratories in 1969. It was initially designed for a single user (the name was a pun on the earlier operating system Multics). platforms, including IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries) AIX, Sun Solaris, Hewlett- Packard HP/UX HP/UX Hewlett-Packard UNIX operating system HP/UX Unexploded Human Particulate Operating System and Digital UNIX, as well as others. DataGateWays Provide Uniform Integration Interfaces External application clients connect to the DataGate server through DataGateWays. These components provide a uniform interface to DataGate. DataGateWays support diverse: -- Communications: e-mail, fax, pagers, Internet, EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) The electronic communication of business transactions, such as orders, confirmations and invoices, between organizations. Third parties provide EDI services that enable organizations with different equipment to connect. networks, etc.; -- Protocols: TCP/IP TCP/IP in full Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol Standard Internet communications protocols that allow digital computers to communicate over long distances. , SNA LU6.2, Serial, DECnet, etc.; -- Databases: Oracle, Sybase, Informix, DB2, SQL Server, ODBC (Open DataBase Connectivity) A database programming interface from Microsoft that provides a common language for Windows applications to access databases on a network. , Data Warehouses, Enterprisewide Universal Identification Systems, etc. The newly announced SuperClient allows easy configuration of a large family of DataGateWays: TCP/IP, FTP, database and others. Software Technologies Based in Arcadia, STC was established in 1991 to provide enterprisewide messaging middleware and data-integration technologies for a broad range of industries and applications. With offices throughout North America, Europe and Australia, STC's nearly 200 employees provide full service and support for more than 700 installations worldwide. STC's product line includes DataGate, SingleView ESL, ScreenScripter, Universal Index and the DataGateWay line of high-performance interfaces, including DART for fully integrated database access. -0- NOTE TO EDITORS: All product names referenced are trademarks or registered trademarks of their respective owners in the United States and/or other countries.
