The combination of Mac hardware and software has been consistent over the years, providing an ease of use that Mac users have enjoyed. developers had been forced to move source code manually from the Mac environment to an entirely different platform before conducting any development work (akin to migrating data between different databases). This added time and complexity costs to development projects and meant that Macintosh application development teams could not share code easily with developers working on other platforms.
