Software AG Announces Certified Adapters for Integrating COBOL and PL/I Applications with SAP NetWeaver(R).

RESTON, Va. -- Software AG Opens SAP(R) NetWeaver Exchange Infrastructure (XI) to Full Bi-Directional Communication with a Majority of the World's Business Applications

Software AG, Inc. today announced that it has extended its Legacy Integrator family of adapters to enable COBOL COBOL: see programming language.
COBOL
 in full Common Business-Oriented Language.

High-level computer programming language, one of the first widely used languages and for many years the most popular language in the business community.
and PL/I (Programming Language 1) A high-level IBM programming language introduced in 1964 with the System/360 series. It was designed to combine features of and eventually supplant COBOL and FORTRAN, which never happened.  users to easily integrate their legacy systems with the SAP NetWeaver(R) open application, integration and composition platform. COBOL remains the most widely deployed programming language in big business, according to Gary Barnett, Research Director of Ovum, and accounts for 75% of all computer transactions, with over 200 billion lines of code The statements and instructions that a programmer writes when creating a program. One line of this "source code" may generate one machine instruction or several depending on the programming language. A line of code in assembly language is typically turned into one machine instruction.  in production and growing at 3% to 5% annually. These applications - along with those written in PL/I and Natural 2006, Software AG's application development platform - can now communicate bi-directionally with SAP NetWeaver. All adapters have been certified by SAP, allowing customers to transparently link applications into their SAP(R) solution-based environment. Software AG's objective is to fully address the integration requirements of companies with legacy investments.

The SAP NetWeaver XI adapters for COBOL, PL/I, Natural and EntireX are fully integrated into the SAP NetWeaver Exchange Infrastructure (SAP NetWeaver XI), an essential component of the SAP NetWeaver platform - helping assure central configuration, administration and monitoring. All adapters support synchronous and asynchronous Refers to events that are not synchronized, or coordinated, in time. The following are considered asynchronous operations. The interval between transmitting A and B is not the same as between B and C. The ability to initiate a transmission at either end.  bi-directional communication. Communication can be initiated by legacy applications or by an SAP process. The adapters are available from Software AG worldwide as part of the Legacy Integrator family for SAP NetWeaver.

The adapters offer fast integration of existing legacy applications and acceleration of business processes through real-time data exchange. They can fully leverage applications running on mainframes, iSeries or UNIX systems, incorporating them into SAP NetWeaver XI. SAP NetWeaver customers can now benefit from Software AG's legacy integration capabilities and experience.

Our pilot project confirmed that we made the right choice: besides the high stability and performance of the adapters we also found that they were extremely well integrated into SAP NetWeaver XI - an important aspect if you aim for reduced complexity and reduced TCO (1) (Total Cost of Ownership) The cost of using a computer. It includes the cost of the hardware, software and upgrades as well as the cost of the inhouse staff and/or consultants that provide training and technical support. See ROI. ."

"We are pleased to announce the expansion of our range of adapters to include COBOL and PL/I applications, and more fully address the integration requirements of legacy users," said Dr. Peter Kuerpick, Member of the Board responsible for crossvision R&D and Marketing. "A major part of business software and data resides on mainframes, and at Software AG we are committed to providing technology allowing enterprises to fully utilize these assets."

The Legacy Integrator family for SAP NetWeaver now includes the SAP NetWeaver XI Adapter for COBOL, the SAP NetWeaver XI Adapter for PL/I, the SAP NetWeaver XI Adapter for Natural and the SAP NetWeaver XI Adapter for EntireX.
