TDMF Time Division Matrix Function
z/OS Now Offers Functionality-on-Demand for Data Movement, Protection and Disaster Recovery

VIENNA, Va. -- Softek[R] Storage Solutions, the leader in Nonstop Data Mobility[TM] software solutions, today announced the latest version of its flagship host-based data migration software, Softek Transparent Data Migration Facility (TDMF) z/OS, that now combines local and remote data migration with economical data replication for mission-critical mainframe applications, in a single package.

New features to Softek TDMF z/OS, Version 4.1, include optional Functionality-on-Demand modules that enable offline volume access, point-in-time copies and data replication over TCP/IP TCP/IP

. Softek has integrated data migration and replication in its flagship TDMF offering. Other new features include broader interoperability for storage arrays via HDS (Hitachi Data Systems, Santa Clara, CA, www.hds.com) A leading provider of high-end storage hardware, software and services. Part of the Information Systems & Telecommunications Division of Hitachi Ltd.  TrueCopy, which enables bi-directional migration between IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries)  Peer-to-Peer Remote Copy (PPRC PPRC Peer-To-Peer Remote Copy

) and HDS TrueCopy paired volumes.

"These new features significantly enhance the functionality, convenience and value of our mainframe Nonstop Data Mobility[TM] solution, especially for data replication activities," said Amena Ali, senior vice president, worldwide marketing and product strategy. "Now with Softek TDMF z/OS, enterprises have the ability to non-disruptively migrate and replicate data, locally or remotely, all in one product. This provides mainframe customers with the flexibility they need to be compliant with application SLA (1) (StereoLithography Apparatus) See 3D printing.

(2) (Service Level Agreement) A contract between the provider and the user that specifies the level of service expected during its term.
mandates whether they are moving data for consolidation, technology refresh or on-going infrastructure changes, or for protection and DR purposes, over any distance and for any storage arrays."

The Functionality on Demand modules in Softek TDMF z/OS 4.1 include:

* Offline Volume Access (OVA) - Allows selected program to access the offline point-in-time copy while the original source volume continues to be used.

* Point in Time (PIT) and Perpetual Point in Time (PPIT PPIT Perpetual Point-In-Time (Fujitsu) ) - Allows point-in-time copies to be created and re-synchronized on a regular basis without having to do a full copy, whether on a one-time or a recurring basis. This enables users to create regular volume synchronization (1) See synchronous and synchronous transmission.

(2) Ensuring that two sets of data are always the same. See data synchronization.

(3) Keeping time-of-day clocks in two devices set to the same time. See NTP.
points which can be used for recovery.

* TCP/IP Support - Provides a means for migrating volumes over distance through any suitable communications link supporting TCP/IP.

These new modules; also available as optional add-on components, complement the comprehensive standard features of Softek TDMF z/OS, which in addition to its patented "dynamic swap" capabilities include:

* Flexible Pacing - Enables application performance levels to be maintained during the migration process by varying the number of tracks that are copied per I/O (Input/Output) The transfer of data between the CPU and a peripheral device. Every transfer is an output from one device and an input to another. See PC input/output.

I/O - Input/Output
cycle. Pacing options include Fixed, Dynamic and Reverse.

* Full Speed Copy - Provides faster performance by allowing volumes migrations to be performed using two I/O buffers, with overlapping read and write operations.

* Active-In-Copy - Enables large amounts of data to be moved without having to set up multiple small groups or sessions.

* Session Assistant - ISPF-based tool designed to simplify the creation of multiple migration sessions.

Softek TDMF z/OS 4.1, is available immediately from the company directly and network of qualified partners.
