responses to questions about storage in a semi-annual interviewing of storage professionals at U.S. Fortune 1000 and European companies It may never be fully completed or, depending on its its nature, it may be that it can never be completed. However, new and revised entries in the list are always welcome.

This is a list of companies from the countries in the European Union.
placed Softek as the most frequently cited privately-held developer vendor of Online Data Migration Software/Data Mobility Software products, second only to Symantec Corp among all cited independent software vendors (ISVs).

The study, titled "Storage Wave 7," was recently released by TheInfoPro (TIP), a New York-based independent research network and leading supplier of market intelligence for the Information Technology industry. The study represents the collective voice of over 250 storage professionals and is delivered without any spin, bias or intermediation.

Other companies placing ahead of Softek included EMC (1) (EMC Corporation, Hopkinton, MA, www.emc.com) The leading supplier of storage products for midrange computers and mainframes. Founded in 1979 by Richard J. Egan and Roger Marino, EMC has developed advanced storage and retrieval technologies for the world's largest companies. , IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries)  and Hitachi Data Systems See HDS. , who each utilize Softek's data mobility software as part of their own professional services (job) professional services - A department of a supplier providing consultancy and programming manpower for the supplier's products.  offerings to perform non-disruptive data migrations in heterogeneous environments Using hardware and system software from different vendors. Organizations often use computers, operating systems and databases from a variety of vendors. Contrast with homogeneous environment. .

"Over the past year, the ability to keep applications up and running while moving data is becoming increasingly important to storage professionals, particularly as they focus on consolidation efforts to improve utilization," said Robert Stevenson, managing director at TheInfoPro. "Data mobility soared from a mere one percent in pilot activity during our last study, to 14 percent in the current one. Respondents expressed that this data movement activity is very disruptive to operations and requires more labor for execution than is generally desired. In addition, Data Mobility has consistently been listed as one of the top five Pain Points among storage professionals over the last three years due to its disruptive nature. The result is that online data migration and data mobility technologies moved up significantly in strategic importance to enterprise datacenters as storage professionals look to allocate more budget on online tools that help them reclaim and optimize existing storage configurations and refresh their infrastructures non-disruptively to the business."

In the study's Storage Management Technology Heat Index(TM), which is based on the immediacy of user need and plans for each technology, weighted by storage spending, Online Data Migration Software/Data Mobility Software was cited as the second highest priority, just behind Information Lifecycle Management Information Lifecycle Management refers to a wide-ranging set of strategies for administering storage systems on computing devices. Specifically, four categories of storage strategies may be considered under the auspices of ILM.  (ILM). Moreover, data migration and data classification were cited as the top two important pieces of ILM functionality.

Softek was cited in the top third of 33 companies on the Storage Management Short List, a compilation of vendors that are currently being used or considered for new implementations. As with the other questions, replies were based on unaided awareness in that no list was provided to interviewees. Results in this category represented a collection of each vendor mention across all storage management technologies.

"With online data migration leaping into the top two of 21 technologies on the Technology Heat Index, this TIP report dovetails with the feedback we have been receiving over the past several years from our customers about the time and complexity associated with doing online migrations easily and non-disruptively, whether for tech refreshes, consolidations, switching vendors, and or implementing tiered storage A data storage system made up of two or more types of storage based on their access speed. For example, magnetic disk and tape or magnetic disk and optical disc are widely used in a tiered storage system. See HSM.  as part of their ILM strategy," said Steven Murphy, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  at Softek. "This study reinforces why Softek is focused on delivering a simple and unified Nonstop Data Mobility(TM) solution to enterprise customers to move data non-disruptively across any platforms, vendor and/or distance. Based on the replies from Fortune 1000 storage professionals in the TIP study, Softek's leadership in the mission-critical online data mobility market space is becoming clearer."
