Until now, injection molders and firms making co-extruded products were mostly limited in their choices to between 50 and 70 durometer A hardness when seeking a soft TPE alloy for two-shot molding (overmolding onto engineering plastics, including ABS, PC, ABS/ PC, ASA, nylon 6, nylon 66, COPA, COPE and TPU substrates) and coextrusion, according to the company.

Now a broader range of overmold and coextrusion-grade TPEs with a durometer A hardness range from as low as 20 to as high as 90 durometer A is offered. These grades also are said to offer exceptional tensile strength, tear strength and durability compared to competitive products at an equivalent durometer. The materials can offer a matte surface as well. They are being marketed under the trade name Softlink 900 Series TPEs.

This product line of soft touch TPE alloys is said to expand potential product applications where they were once limited to durometer A hardness range offerings. These off-white or easy-to-color compounds can often be processed without pre-heating or drying. They can be injection molded or extruded, with the coefficient of friction capable of being lowered to improve the abrasion resistance. The can substitute for silicone, latex, rubber, etc.
