Socket's Cordless Serial Adapter with Bluetooth Wireless Technology replaces a conventional RS-232 serial data cable, creating an easy-to-use, cable-free connection between existing equipment and Bluetooth enabled notebook computers A laptop computer that weighs in a range from five to seven pounds. The term originated when laptops were routinely more than 10 pounds, and those that became lighter were placed in a special "notebook" category. In practice, notebook computer and laptop computer are synonymous.  or Pocket PCs. The Cordless Serial Adapter adds to Socket's industry leading position in offering plug-in serial adapters for notebooks, laptops, and PDAs.

"As Bluetooth technology becomes more widely available, users are quickly finding new ways to implement it," said Patti Cassalia, senior product marketing manager for Socket's Bluetooth wireless technology product line. "We've developed the Cordless Serial Adapter to benefit users seeking to protect their investment in legacy equipment, while quickly, easily, and cost-effectively moving into the world of cordless communications."

The Cordless Serial Adapter removes the cabling from any device that has a standard 9-pin serial port by using Bluetooth wireless technology. No software installation on the host device is required. Just plug in the adapter and the cordless serial connection is made, enabling users to take advantage of Personal Area Networking easily and quickly. The product uses an internal antenna and is Class 2, Bluetooth 1.1 compliant. It supports the Bluetooth General Access Protocol, Service Discovery Protocol, and Serial Port Profile. The Socket MyConfigurator(TM) software works with Windows 98SE, 2000 and XP. It enables settings such as baud rate A redundant reference to baud. Baud is a rate.
