Society for New Communications Research to Announce Latest Research Findings & Award Winners at Inaugural Symposium & Gala November 1 - 2, 2006, in Boston.


BOSTON -- The Society for New Communications Research (http://www.sncr.org), a nonprofit global think tank dedicated to the advanced study of new media and emerging modes of communication and their effect on media, business and society, will hold its inaugural Research Symposium & Awards Gala on November 1 - 2, 2006, at the Colonnade colonnade (kŏlənād`), a row of columns usually supporting a roof. Colonnades were popular with the Greeks and Romans, who employed them in the stoa and the portico; they have continued to be used throughout the Middle Ages, the  Hotel in Boston, Mass. The event will feature the presentation of the Society's first research projects and the unveiling of the first issue of the Journal of New Communications Research. In addition, the event will honor excellence in the use of new communications models and solutions by professionals, businesses and academics from around the world through the first SNCR Awards program.

On November 1st, the Society will hold a gala where the award winners will be announced and winning case studies will be shared. The SNCR's awards will recognize innovative organizations and professionals who are pioneering the use of social media (i.e. blogs, wikis See wiki. , podcasts, collaborative tools and other forms of participatory communications) in the areas of marketing, public relations public relations, activities and policies used to create public interest in a person, idea, product, institution, or business establishment. By its nature, public relations is devoted to serving particular interests by presenting them to the public in the most  and advertising, politics, entertainment, academics and community and cultural development.

On November 2nd, the SNCR Symposium will begin with a keynote presentation titled "The New Influencers: How Social Media is Revolutionizing Media and Markets" by SNCR Research Fellow and veteran journalist Paul Gillin, founding editor-in-chief of TechTarget and author of the social media column for Business 2.0 magazine.

Other featured panels and presentations will include:

* "Corporate Blogging Policy Best Practices," moderated by SNCR Research Fellow and Best Practices Chair, Mike Manuel of Voce Communications. Panelists will include executives from IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries) , EDS (Electronic Data Systems, Plano, TX, www.eds.com) Founded in 1962 by H. Ross Perot (independent candidate for the President of the U.S. in 1992), EDS is the largest outsourcing and data processing services organization in the country.  and Novell.

* "The Emergence of Blogging in University Admissions and Recruiting," moderated by SNCR Research Fellow Dan Karleen of Peterson's, and Rob Pongsajapan of Georgetown University. Panelists will include representatives from The University of Vermont; Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, at Troy, N.Y.; coeducational; founded and opened 1824 as Rensselaer School; chartered 1826. It was called Rensselaer Institute from 1837 to 1861.  and Ball State University.

* "The State of the Art in Social Media," presented by SNCR Research Fellow and PR veteran Giovanni Rodriguez
