The event is being organised by the Syro-Malabar Society (Syms) to honour people for their exceptional acts of mercy and compassion regardless of their religious backgrounds.

"Dr Chiramel, known as the kidney priest of India, was selected for his devotional work in Kerala, India," said event vice-chairman Sany Paul. "He has dedicated his life to helping needy families."

"A well-known man of versatile charity, Dr Chiramel is a man of action and compassion, and gives leadership to various charitable activities regardless of religion, caste, creed and region."

Syms will also honour Salmaniya Medical Complex accident and emergency department chief resident, Dr P V Cheriyan; BKS president, P V Radhakrishna Pillai; businessman Dr Ravi Pillai; and New Horizon School director and World Malayalee Council general secretary, A S Jose; for their contribution to the society in various fields.

The event will start at 7pm on July 5, and will also feature a musical extravaganza by renowned Malayalam playback singer K G Markose, dance performances and a magic show.

Syms honours one outstanding individual or organisation annually in the field of charity and humanitarian act of love. The award will consist of a cash prize and certificate of endorsement. -- TradeArabia News Service
