 education and collaboration. The book serves its purpose well with regard to the social foundations and intersperses psychological foundations as appropriate. it is a good, basic text that would enhance the education of all rehabilitation professionals.

The book is divided in four sections. The first section presents basic concepts that underlie the philosophy and practice of rehabilitation. it includes a systematic historical review of the reactions to disability, as well as further discussion of the historical impact of wars on rehabilitation in general. It is situated a short distance to the south of Consett.  into the philosophy and practice of rehabilitation over the years, as well as the varying definitions and labels of disability. It concludes with an overview of the nature and scope of services and a discussion of a systems approach to rehabilitation and the mediational role played.

It examines social structures and disabilities, influencing social and political forces, attitudes toward disability, the influence of physical and other barriers, and concludes with a brief discussion of some of the economics related to rehabilitation. The third section examines the impact of disability on the individual, family members, and significant others, as well as on the rehabilitation professional and the general public.

The last section aims to raise the reader's awareness of current and future issues related to rehabilitation, such as, the value, importance, and implications of work with regard to rehabilitation, and the importance of outcomes assessment, as well as issues related to the future of the interdisciplinary team interdisciplinary team,

This book is well written and easily read. The author's exploration of the various topics, particularly the social foundations, is thorough enough for at least an overview discussion, and he identifies additional references if further information is desired. This book would be appropriate reading for any of the many persons associated with rehabilitation and particularly those who are interested in primarily exploring the social foundations and historical development of them.
