Soccer ball collection meets its goal.In the July issue of Parks & Recreation, Washington Recreation and Park Association (WRPA WRPA Wisconsin Rifle and Pistol Association ) kicked off "July Is Parks and Recreation Month" by collecting soccer balls to send to African children involved in sports. Since the start of the campaign, 30 cities across Washington participated in collecting more than 2,000 balls to send to Africa through World Vision. The following are the cities that got involved: Edmonds, Lynnwood, Mount Vernon Mount Vernon, estate, United States Mount Vernon, NE Va., overlooking the Potomac River near Alexandria, S of Washington, D.C.; home of George Washington from 1747 until his death in 1799. , Mountlake Terrace Mountlake Terrace, city (1990 pop. 19,320), Snohomish co., NW Wash., a residential suburb of Seattle; inc. 1954. Its manufactures include refrigeration systems and communications equipment. , Kitsap County, Port Angeles Port Angeles (ăn`jələs), city (1990 pop. 17,710), seat of Clallam co., NW Wash., on Juan de Fuca Strait opposite Victoria, British Columbia; inc. 1890. , Poulsbo, Puyallup, Skagit County, Auburn, Federal Way, Burien, Enumclaw, Issaquah, Bellevue, Mercer Island, University Place, Camas, Longview-Kelso, Walla Walla, Yakima, Spokane, Medical Lake, Kent, Seattle, Redmond, Sammamish, Tukwila, Woodinville and Pullman. WRPA is proud to have taken part in this partnership with World Vision. WRPA received press from T.V., radio and newspapers, and the children who participated were so excited to have their balls sent to Africa. Giving children in America an opportunity to help those less fortunate proved to be a success this summer. WRPA hopes to collect soccer balls nationwide next year, and involve NRPA NRPA National Recreation and Park Association NRPA Natural Resources Protective Association (Staten Island, NY) NRPA Niagara Regional Police Association (Canada) NRPA National Rifle and Pistol Association in its endeavor. |
