On the women's side, Hannah Teter Hannah Teter (born January 27 1987) is a female snowboarder from Belmont, Vermont, in the United States, known for her consistent and technical riding in the halfpipe. She won a gold medal in the women's halfpipe competition at the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Turin, Italy. and Lindsey Jacobellis Lindsey Jacobellis (born August 19, 1985 in Danbury, Connecticut) is an American Snowboarder from Stratton, Vermont. Jacobellis is one of the most decorated and successful women's snowboarders currently active in the world today. should be in the running. Mount Bachelor was the site of a similar Olympic qualifying event before the 2002 Olympics. Sherman expects to see about 120 riders competing at the ski area this weekend. From those competitors, 20 men and 10 women will be chosen to go on to the final Olympic qualifying event, which takes place at Mountain Creek, N.J., Jan. 20-21. The U.S. team of 16 riders will be announced on Jan. 21. Competition got under way at Mount Bachelor on Thursday with the first round of Slope Style, a non-Olympic-qualifying event that involves riders snaking their way down a run dotted with jumps and obstacles. The first round of halfpipe competition takes place today, and the final round of Slope Style goes down on Sunday. "It should be exciting for sure," said Rain Couture, co-owner of Boardsports in Eugene. "You know you'll be seeing the world's best riders."
