This easy-to-use instant messaging Exchanging text messages in real time between two or more people logged into a particular instant messaging (IM) service. . It's useful for quick communication between teachers, librarians and administrators, or between teachers and students in a computer lab or classroom. Participation is limited to people registered with the same serial code: the program runs in the background on computers, and scans the network for other available users. Version 3 innovations include a "While You Were Out" log of messages; a time stamp See timestamp.  for every message; the ability to send messages to multiple people, and to archive transcripts; and the option to encrypt messages and to attach files. Messages can be spoken aloud by the computer for blind users, and instant messaging is obviously helpful for deaf students, too. Glass Bead Software also offers Snap-Mail, for non-Internet intra-office messaging, chat, and file transfers. Both applications are well worth considering in any large school system or building.
