See : Bravery
, Minn. -- Smiths Medical MD, Inc., part of the global engineering business Smiths Group, has been selected as silver award winner in the 2006 Industrial Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) for its Cleo(TM) 90 infusion set.

It is the second award for the Cleo(TM) 90 infusion set. Earlier this year the device received the 2006 Medical Design Excellence Awards (MDEA MDEA 3,4-Methylenedioxy-N-Ethylamphetamine (empathogenic/psychedelic drug closely related to MDMA)

) gold award in a competition that exclusively recognizes contributions and advances in the design of medical products. The Cleo(TM) 90 infusion set was one of just nine products to receive the MDEA gold award honor.

IDEA is co-sponsored by BusinessWeek and the Industrial Designers Society of America Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) is an organisation of professional industrial designers in the United States. It was formed in 1965 by merger of three American designer associations: American Designers Institute (IDI), American Society of Industrial Design  (IDSA IDSA Infectious Diseases Society of America
IDSA Industrial Designers Society of America
IDSA Interactive Digital Software Association
IDSA Institute for Defense Studies and Analyses (India)
IDSA International Dark Sky Association
). The Cleo(TM) 90 set was honored in this year's competition after its exceptional design, intelligent functionality and innovation impressed the jury.

users. As a result of listening to people with diabetes, a team from Smiths Medical was able to redefine the industry standard for infusion sets for those who rely on an insulin pump---such as Smiths Medical's Deltec Cozmo(R) pump---to manage their diabetes. The pump continually delivers insulin through a small cannula cannula /can·nu·la/ (kan´u-lah) a tube for insertion into a vessel, duct, or cavity; during insertion its lumen is usually occupied by a trocar.

"We are honored to receive another important industry recognition of the Cleo(TM) 90 infusion set's unique design and new features that reduce complexity, maximize comfort and ensure safety for people with diabetes," said Jim Stitt, president of Smiths Medical MD, Inc. "The Cleo(TM) 90 infusion set is the result of listening to our customers, and asking them what features would make their lives easier. It's no surprise that the Cleo(TM) 90 infusion set is getting such positive reviews---our customers helped us design it."

Cleo(TM) 90 infusion sets are currently available for sale in the United States and will be available for sale outside the U.S. in the fall of this year.
