Smiths Detection Chosen to Commercialize Early Warning System for Chemical Terrorist Attacks.


LONDON -- Smiths Detection, part of the global technology business Smiths Group, today announces it has been chosen by Argonne National Laboratory Argonne National Laboratory, research center, based in Argonne, Ill., 27 mi (43 km) SW of downtown Chicago, with other facilities at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory, 50 mi (80 km) W of Idaho Falls, Idaho. PROTECT (Program for Response Options and Technology Enhancements for Chemical/Biological Terrorism) was developed by Argonne in response to the 1995 sarin sarin (zärēn`), volatile liquid used as a nerve gas. Smiths Detection-LiveWave has been working closely with Argonne since early 2002. It was contracted to integrate its FirstView video and sensor management software platform with Argonne's Chemical/Biological Agent Emergency Management System (CB-EMIS) as part of the PROTECT program.
