NAPLES, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 13, 1997--

Data with Netscape Communicator

Fischer International Systems Corporation announced today that Netscape(R) Communicator client software now supports smart card readers such as Fischer's Smarty Smart Card Reader/Writer, which looks like a 3.5 inch diskette, has a slot in the back that accepts a smart card, and fits into a personal computer's 3.5 inch floppy disk drive floppy disk drive - disk drive  to access smart card information. Netscape Communicator's support of smart cards and hardware tokens like Smarty allows mobile users to more safely carry their digital certificates on a smart card when remotely accessing protected data on corporate networks or when sending and receiving encrypted electronic mail from remote locations. Smarty is enabled with industry-leading NetSign and CryptOS software from Litronic, Inc.

"Data security is the biggest obstacle to widespread electronic commerce on the Internet and on private Intranets," said Arthur C. Burton, Vice President, Sales and Marketing for Fischer International. "The combination of a cryptographic smart card, the Smarty Smart Card Reader/Writer, Litronic NetSign and Netscape Communicator gives individuals and organizations enhanced protection for Internet-based electronic commerce."

Both Netscape Communicator and the Smarty Smart Card Reader/Writer support the RSA (1) (Rural Service Area) See MSA.

"This enables users to immediately take advantage of Smarty through Netscape Communicator with no additional programming," said Burton.

"As a leader in Internet security technology, Netscape is making it even easier for Netscape Communicator users to access encrypted information from the network while on the road," said Taher Elgamal, chief scientist at Netscape. "In addition, broad industry support for PKCS #11 ensures that leading security vendors like Fischer International can deliver interoperable security solutions that work well with Netscape Communicator."

"Fischer's innovative and convenient smart card reader design coupled with Netscape Communicator and Litronic's software offer a formidable contender for shrink-wrapped security in the enterprise," said Eric Greenberg, Chief Operating Officer Chief Operating Officer (COO)
