Smart Coatings conference held.

Eastern Michigan University's Coatings Research Institute will present Smart Coatings 2005, February 16-18 at the Grosvenor Resort and Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista/Orlando, FL.

This three-day conference will focus on advances in such areas as anti-microbial and hygienic coatings; organic nanotechnology based coatings; stimulus and response coatings; and self-assembled intelligent layers.

Session 1 on smart coatings will include the following presentations: "21st century materials: Coatings that interact with their environment," Robert F. Brady, Naval Research Lab; "Technology to efficiently fabricate photonic crystal materials for controlling light transmission and chemical sensing applications," Sanford A. Asher, University of Pittsburgh; "Fouling-resistant, active Xerogel coatings doped with peroxide-activating catalysts," Michael R. Detty, SUNY; and "pH-responsive copolymer films by surface-catalyzed polymerization," G. Kane Jennings, Dongshun Bai and Brian M. Habersberger, Vanderbilt University.
