Excerpts from the report follow:

Vion Pharmaceuticals, Inc. ("VION") is a biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery, development and commercialization of products and technologies for the treatment of cancer. With 61 worldwide patents (16 in U.S.) and an additional 23 patents pending, VION's strong scientific and intellectual property underscores its broad product pipeline and five active R&D programs. VION's lead drug candidate is Promycin(R), in Phase III clinical trials Noun 1. phase III clinical trial - a large clinical trial of a treatment or drug that in phase I and phase II has been shown to be efficacious with tolerable side effects; after successful conclusion of these clinical trials it will receive formal approval from the  for head and neck cancer. Central to its strategy to partner on development and commercialization of its products, VION has partnered with Boehringer Ingelheim on Promycin. VION is also developing a unique drug delivery technology called TAPET Tap´et

Additional to its development pipeline, VION developed Melasyn (R), the first water-soluble synthetic version of melanin melanin (mĕl`ənĭn), water-insoluble polymer of various compounds derived from the amino acid tyrosine. It is one of two pigments found in human skin and hair and adds brown to skin color; the other pigment is carotene, which contributes , and currently receives royalties from the sales of products using Melasyn. VION successfully partnered with San-Mar Laboratories, a leading manufacturer of private-label cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, for the manufacture and marketing of its Melasyn technology, a partnership that has already begun to generate royalty revenue.

We believe that VION is undervalued Undervalued

A stock or other security that is trading below its true value.

Notes:
The difficulty is knowing what the "true" value actually is. Analysts will usually recommend an undervalued stock with a strong buy rating.
at this time, given its products and pipeline, the unique TAPET technology, its partnering strategy (and proven ability to secure partnerships), and the potential market for its products. The Company estimates the worldwide market for Promycin, TAPET, and Triapine combined, to exceed $8 billion by targeting the 1.4 million patients who suffer from the cancers on which VION is focusing. We are initiating coverage with a BUY rating, and recommend purchase of VION for those investors tolerant of the risks associated with small cap equity investments.
