ALREADY EXHAUSTED by the mere thought of a hectic holiday weekend?

Consider this perfect antidote to cooking for a crowd, gorging on turkey and stuffing, or elbowing your way through shopping mall crowds:

Get thee to a winery.

Dial down the frantic pace. Let someone else wait on you. Rediscover Re`dis`cov´er

v. t. 1. To discover again.

Verb 1. rediscover - discover again; "I rediscovered the books that I enjoyed as a child"
how good things taste in little sips and small bites.

And maybe, just maybe, knock off some holiday shopping in the process.

The number of Oregon winemakers has more than doubled in the last decade, and many have made a tradition of Thanksgiving weekend open houses.

Some will dip into dip into

Some will offer rare sips of classics from years past.

Many will offer free tastings of - and case discounts on - current vintages.

It's a chance to visit not only the heavy-hitters with year-round tasting rooms, but also some small vintners. This is the only weekend of the year that Cheshire's RainSong Vineyard, for example, opens to the public. And this will be this first-ever opportunity for public visits to Elkton's new Brandborg Vineyards and Winery.

Live music, complimentary appetizers and boutiques featuring gift items will add to the holiday ambience at many of the tasting rooms. Albany's Springhill Cellars, open to the public only two weekends a year, even offers a free Saturday night barn dance.
