For one week at least, downtown has been in style. Designers from around the globe swarmed trendy spots at the annual Los Angeles Fashion Week Los Angeles Fashion Week takes place each March (for fall collections) and October (for spring collections) in locations throughout the Los Angeles Area.  local hospitality industry. While L.A. Fashion Week has had strong attendance in the past, the addition of runway shows sponsored by Mercedes Benz/7th on Sixth and Smashbox Studios has attracted a contingent of celebrities and a larger crowd from the East Coast, Cunningham said.

Besides packing the downtown Standard Hotel's rooftop bar for runway shows and cocktail parties, tradeshow attendees are expected to spend more than a $1 million at downtown hotels and restaurants during their stay, Cunningham said. That's a 50 percent increase over last year, she said.

On Friday the group hosted the premiere event of the week at the Orpheum Theatre, located on 842 South Broadway, featuring designers Monah Li, Poleci, Sheri Bodell, Sharagano, FuBu, Pelle Pelle and Lucky Brand.

"We've always had a market presence," Cunningham said. "But this runway segment is really adding a lot."
