SA Franklin wrote the first portion of his autobiography, but never completed the last third, which would have covered his final three decades, from 1757 to his death in 1790. The years are heavily documented, however, and Skousen (one of Franklin's descendents) considers that Franklin pre-wrote this book. Skousen has sifted through Franklin's personal commentaries, letters, journals and essays, along with some letters from Franklin's friends, to produce a 'compleated' autobiography "entirely in the hand and voice of Franklin."
