SkillsOne, online assessment, 2004, SkillsOne (800-969-8901, www.skillsone.com), $300 plus additional fees.

Over a year ago I reviewed one of CPP's online assessment tools. Since that time, the CPP cpp - C preprocessor.  SkillsOne delivery website has undergone a significant transformation and update. So I was invited to take another look.

This time, I tried other assessments available through CPP: the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Definition

). I've used paper versions of these assessments in the past and found these online assessments to be very similar. The value-add of CPP's delivery solution is the personalized per·son·al·ize

My first impressions of the new website are sleek, simple, and professional. It was VERY easy to understand, without much "gingerbread gingerbread

Each assessment begins with demographic questions and then moves right into the online questionnaire. The directions are simple and easy to follow. My only complaint about the survey is the inability to "freeze" the window pane A rectangular area within an on-screen window that contains information for the user. A window may have many panes. See menu pane.  so that I could see the top line labels as I scrolled down through the questions. I found myself having to scroll To continuously move forward, backward or sideways through the text and images on screen or within a window. Scrolling implies continuous and smooth movement, a line, character or pixel at a time, as if the data were on a paper scroll being rolled behind the screen. See auto scroll.  up and down the window while answering survey questions. My favorite My Favorite is an independent synthpop band from Long Island, New York. They released two CDs: Love at Absolute Zero and Happiest Days of Our Lives. My Favorite broke up on September 14, 2005, when singer Andrea Vaughn left the band.  part of the online assessment was the pop-up window pop-up window n (Comput) → Popup-Fenster nt  telling me when I reached the halfway mark.

What I liked most about this new delivery mechanism is its simplicity. Just the directions, the assessment, and click "Next." In a world of multiple streams of information (television screens broken into scrolling frames, text, graphics, and other distractions), it is refreshing to have a clean, simple screen.

Like last time, my individual coaching session was insightful. The reports were informative and adaptable for many uses.

This time I got to peek behind the scenes and view the administrative side of the CPP SkillsOne site. As a test administrator, I was able to view user logs, run reports, and manage assessment delivery options. The SkillsOne administrative website is similar to its user website in its simplicity and ease of use. Across the top of the page are the navigation links (welcome, reports, user log, results, batch management), and along the left side are additional navigation buttons (what's new, sample reports, get qualified/certified, contact us).

PRICE

The fees listed below are service costs only. An additional user fee is charged for online reports; pricing for generating individual online reports varies by report.

* One-time set-up fee (includes free customer service and technical support), $300

* Annual maintenance fee for current SkillsOne customers (includes customer service and technical support), $195

* Additional site fee, $100

* Annual maintenance of additional sites, $100

TRAINING AND HELP

For any questions about using the administrative tools, the documentation provides answers. In fact, the site is so intuitive that even novice training administrators should have no problems deploying a program or running reports.

When you initially set up a SkillsOne site, technical support will walk you through the setup process. The company also offers webinars to assist customers; topics include how to create an account and how to set up a client assessment site. The cost for technical support is included in the annual maintenance fee.

RECOMMENDATION

For organizations wishing to roll out the CPP assessments, the SkillsOne website has a very good solution. It isn't fancy, but that's the point. It's simple to use for both training administrators and end users.
