Skanska, Fluor get on track in a joint venture WTC bid.


The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, self-sustaining public corporation established in 1921 by the states of New York and New Jersey to administer the activities of the New York–New Jersey port area, which has a waterfront of c.  has appointed Phoenix Constructors, a joint venture of Skanska, Fluor Enterprises, Granite Construction Granite Construction is a member of the S&P 400 Index, and is the parent company of Granite Construction Company, one of the nation's largest heavy civil contractors and construction materials producers.  and Bovis Lend Lease, to lead the construction of the commuter rail traffic for the World Trade Center Transportation Hub Transportation hub is a location where traffic is exchanged across several modes of transport. These modes may include any of railway, tramway, rapid transit, bus, automobile, truck, airplane, spacecraft, ship, ferry, pedestrian or any other kind of transportation. .

The project will involve extensive underground work, including the construction of rail tunnels, communications and rails systems, the installation of new climate-controlled train platforms and mezzanines and the creation of 3,280 feet of pedestrian tunnels that will link the PATH train station with other train and subway lines.

The cost of the new contract is estimated at $1.1 billion, with Skanska and Fluor serving as the main shareholders in the venture. Skanska's past experience with the PA in the construction of the JFK Airport Light Rail System, served as the deciding factor in the award of the project.

Work on commuter rails will begin within the next few months and is expected to be completed by 2009.

The Dey Street Concourse is part of the Fulton Street Transit Center The Fulton Street Transit Center is a $750 million project, currently in progress in New York City, USA, that will improve access to and connections between 12 subway services stopping at Manhattan's Fulton Street, PATH service and the World Trade Center station in Lower Manhattan. , which will connect to the World Trade Center Transportation Hub when it is completed.
