Six-Axis spray & handle casting molds.

Druckguss Hoym GmbH, Hoym, Germany, is a worldwide supplier of aluminum and magnesium diecast parts, specializing in small- and medium-sized castings with customers in a wide variety of industries, including automotive and electrical. In order to optimize its diecasting processes by improving quality and lowering costs, Druckguss Hoym decided to automate one of its casting cells.

It was realized that the complex machine unloading Unloading

, material handling and gap-free mold spraying required of the cell could only be implemented through the use of six-axis robots, which would ensure total mold coverage with the release agent to prevent any casting material sticking in the mold.

The company's solution included a Kuka KR 30 robot and a Kuka KR 60 K shelf-mounted robot from Kuka Robotics robotics, science and technology of general purpose, programmable machine systems. Contrary to the popular fiction image of robots as ambulatory machines of human appearance capable of performing almost any task, most robotic systems are anchored to fixed positions  Corp., Clinton Township Clinton Township can refer to:

, Mich. The Kuka KR 30 robot uses a three-pronged gripper to take the blank metal from the hot casting mold of the machine. Because the robot always grips the casting on its sprue sprue, chronic disorder of the small intestine caused by impaired absorption of fat and other nutrients. Two forms of the disease exist. The robot positions the casting in front of sensors to determine part presence and part completion. Rejects are placed on a conveyor Conveyor

After the Kuka KR 30 robot removes the part from the bath, it places it in a trimming press.

Once the Kuka KR 30 robot receives the signal from the unloading inspection that the part is complete, the Kuka KR 60 K shelf-mounted robot sprays the mold of the diecasting machine with a high pressure watersoluble parting agent, thus ensuring that the next casting also will be easy to remove. The shelf-mounted robot-installed on top of the machine to save space--executes a precise spray pattern, which lowers the company's consumption of parting agent and decreases its costs.

The automated casting cell helped Druckguss Hoym to lower its costs, improve work conditions and exectue extremely quick product changes. The precision of the shelf-mounted robot lowered the company's consumption costs, and the use of automation resulted in the need for only one operator for two machines.

Lastly, the new automated cell's Windows-based interface on the Kuka control panel of its PC-based robot controller gave the company the ability to make extremely quick product changes.
