) today announced volume production of a new high-performance receiver IC for SIRIUS Satellite Radio's Stiletto 100 portable radio. Sirenza's S520077 functions as the RF front-end receiver for direct satellite radio reception, converting signals from RF to digital baseband.

"Sirenza's engineering group collaborated closely with SIRIUS on the radio development," stated Richard Bay-Ramyon, strategic business unit director of broadband and consumer products at Sirenza Microdevices. "The leading edge RF performance of Sirenza's receiver IC along with it low power consumption and wide dynamic range make it ideal for portable satellite radio applications."

The S520077, 2.3 GHz RF receiver features:

* Low noise amplifier with automatic gain control

* PLL PLL - phase-locked loop  synthesizer synthesizer

Machine that electronically generates and modifies sounds, frequently with the use of a digital computer, for use in the composition of electronic music and in live performance.
 and reference oscillator oscillator

Mechanical or electronic device that produces a back-and-forth periodic motion. A pendulum is a simple mechanical oscillator that swings with a constant amplitude, requiring the addition of energy at each swing only to compensate for the energy lost because of air

* High dynamic range, single conversion mixer

* Multiple IF outputs with 100dB overall gain control

* Programmable power levels for optimal battery life

The receiver operates with a broad range of RF input power levels. This wide dynamic range allows the radio to provide enhanced satellite signal reception in the presence of interfering signals.

"The S520077, utilizing IBM's advanced silicon germanium semiconductor process technology, is one of the most highly integrated RF ICs developed to date by Sirenza," stated Robert Van Buskirk, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Sirenza Microdevices. "Sirenza's design and production capabilities support an increasing customer demand for higher levels of RF component integration. This new product is a good example of Sirenza's ability to provide leading edge RF components with relatively short design cycles for a wide range of consumer applications."
