Sipe leads Ducks to ninth.

TUCSON, Ariz. - Oregon's Derek Sipe shot a final-round 66 Tuesday to finish tied for fifth at the Arizona Intercollegiate men's golf tournament.

Sipe shot a 7-under-par 206 to lead the Ducks to ninth place at the tournament with a 10-over 862 total.

UNLV UNLV University of Nevada, Las Vegas  won the team title with an 829, four strokes ahead of Brigham Young. Arizona was third at 840.

Arizona's Brian Prouty shot a 14-under 199 to earn the individual title by four strokes over New Mexico's Charlie Beljan and East Tennessee East Tennessee is a name given to approximately the eastern third of the state of Tennessee. Unlike the names given to regions or portions of many of U.S. states, the term East Tennessee can be precisely defined.  State's Seamus Power.

Garbin, Skipper, Webster up for state awards

, and track and field star Tommy Skipper and wrestling national champion Shane Webster are up for the male award in nominations for the Oregon Sports Awards announced Tuesday.

Skipper and Webster are up against a trio of Oregon State baseball players - Cole Gillespie, Kevin Gunderson Kevin Gunderson (Born September 16, 1984 in Portland, Oregon) is a Minor League Baseball pitcher who played for the Oregon State Beavers of Oregon State University before being drafted by the Atlanta Braves.  and Jonah Nickerson Jonah Nickerson (born March 9 1985 in Casper, Wyoming) is a pitcher for the 2006 College World Series-winning Oregon State Beavers, and the Most Outstanding Player in that tournament.  - for the award. The Beaver baseball team, which won the College World Series for the first time last season, was nominated for team of the year, along with the school's football and softball teams, and OSU baseball coach Pat Casey was nominated for Slats Gill Sportsperson sportsperson

Eugene runner Marla Runyan was among the nominees for female professional athlete of the year.

At the high school level, Churchill's Kelly Dyer and North Bend's Kelcy McKenna were among the semifinalists for female athlete of the year, and Sheldon's Casey Masterson and McKenzie's David Sherman were finalists for the Steve Prefontaine Award.

The awards will be handed out at 7 p.m. Feb. 11 at the Tiger Woods Center at the Nike World Campus in Beaverton.
