The type of saw blade used on different raw materials can make a crucial difference in the quality of the cut. The following are just a few of the saw blades on the market. Check the Red Book Buyer's Specification Guide for more information on saw blades.

Saw Blades

FS Tools' group of XL4000 saw blades has been engineered specifically for cutting solid surface materials such as DuPont's Corian, Avonite, Nevamar's Fountainhead and Formica's Surell. These blades, with their corrosion-resistant tips, will cut five times longer than conventional saw blades, FS Tools says. Standard sizes ranging from 8 in. to 18 in. in diameter are available.

DB Machine offers precision-designed carbide-tipped saw blades. The COBRACUT line of saw blades is designed to provide a chip-free cut and eliminate the need for sanding. Saw blades are available for cutting a variety of materials including hardwoods, softwoods, laminated panels, veneer plywoods, particleboard, plastics, solid surface materials and single- and double-sided laminates.

Super Thin Saws Co. offers its RipSaver saw blades series for straight line and gang ripping of hardwoods and softwoods. Improvements in design and materials have helped make these saw blades even more durable than heavier blades, the company says, and that conservation of raw materials through better utilization saves wood, money and forests.

Gladu Tools offers ultra-fine (UF) grained, carbide-tipped panel saw blades with diamond-tipped scoring blades, and a full line of PCD-tipped cutterheads and router bits. Costs are reduced, the company says, by using a diamond/carbide panel processing system because downtime can be converted into production time.

GUHDO-USA offers polycrystalline diamond saw blades for all panel saws and sliding table saws. Main blades range from 300mm to 700mm diameters, and saw blades are made with special hardened plates to eliminate blade fatigue and tension, according to GUHDO. The company says the diamond panel saw blades can be used on solid hardwoods as well as both raw and laminated composite materials such as particleboard and MDF.

Stehle Gmbh & Co. offers a brochure detailing its Condor reversible circular saw blade. The patent-pending, TC-tipped circular saw blade is equipped with oppositely arranged teeth, so when the teeth for one cutting direction are blunt, the blade can be reversed, saving grinding time. The company says the reversible teeth also inhibit the clamping of the reversible saw blade in the wood when used for deep cuts.

New literature from Leuco-Oertli describes the structure of the company and details its product line, including carbide-tipped saw blades and hoggers, polycrystalline diamond-tipped tooling, insert-type tooling, clamping systems and tool sharpening services.

Double miter saw blades from SystiMatic are used on production-style double miter machines, such as CTD and Pistorius, in wood and nonferrous applications. The blades can be used for picture frames, windows and doors or anywhere production-type miter machines are used. The blades can also be used on cross cuts and miter cuts on particleboard, solid wood, laminate or other materials.

Northwoods saw blades from Ridge Carbide Tool Corp. feature laser cut bodies with 0.001 to 0.003 maximum plate runout and super hard fine grain carbide tips. The saw blades range in size from 7 1/4-in. to 18-in. with panel saw blades and scoring blades (including split scorers) also available.

Ditec circular saw blades from Amana Tool Corp. feature a laser cut Teflon coated plate and a newly engineered grade of micrograin carbide tips. The blades have been designed for high-production panel saws, sliding table saws and similar equipment.

Lach Diamond manufactures Diaeconomic disposable diamond circular saw blades, in addition to router bits offered in inch sizes and metric sizes with both right and left hand rotation.

North American Products Corp. offers a full line of quality saw blades to meet a variety of woodworking applications. Customers can choose from a large variety of blades, including ripping, cross-cut, combination, miter and glue line ripping. Blades for cutting hard, soft and mixed woods, plywood, particleboard, plastic laminated and veneered board are available.

Henderson Diamond and Carbide manufactures a complete line of polycrystalline diamond panel saw blades, with matching scoring blades. It also offers PCD sizing saws for combination edgebanders and tenoner machines.

Carbide Saw & Tool offers a variety of new and specialty tooling including carbide-tipped saw blades, cutters, etc. The company also offers equipment for profile grinding and sharpening.

The carbide-tipped Duraline HI-A/T circular saw blade from Forrest Mfg. Co. has been designed for sawing low-pressure laminates and ply veneers. The company says the blades eliminate ragged, chipped out bottom edges without the necessity of a scoring blade.

The Silencer circular saw blade from Everlast Saw & Carbide Tools has been designed to reduce noise in operation. A unique boomerang slot and plug configuration prevents vibration travel through the surface of the blade.

The low-noise T.C.T. circular saw blade from Leitz Tooling Systems features reported noise reduction of up to 50%, longer performance from the reduced vibration, improved quality of cut and sharpening that can be carried out on all well-known sharpeners.

All DML brand Golden Eagle circular saw blades from Primark Tool Group feature Dyanite carbide cutting tips that are reported to extend tool life. The gear cut, stress-free industrial plate material the blades are manufactured from are heat-treated tool steel.

Industrial steel circular saw blades from DeWalt Industrial Tool feature a thicker body for increased durability, and precision ground teeth for a faster cut and longer life, the company says. A special blade coating is reported to reduce friction and prevent rust.

CMT Tools offers a series of carbide-tipped circular saw blades. Features include a unique pattern of sound suppression slots that are also reported to help dissipate vibration produced by the saw. A 60-tooth general purpose, and 48-, 60- or 80-tooth miter saw blades are available.

The Ni-Matrix carbide-tipped saw blades from International Carbide & Engineering have been designed for pallet recyclers and their nail cutting requirements. The blades are reported to cut through tar paper, roofing, nails and non-ferrous metals.

Markay Cutting Tools' hollow-ground saw blades have been designed for trimming and cutting of panels with plastic laminate on one or both sides, producing chip-free edges. All diameters and bores are in stock for immediate shipment.

BM Precision Tooling offers a range of British-manufactured resaw blades produced from Swedish and German steels. Available in a range of widths from 2 1/2 in. to 8 in. and strip thicknesses up to 17 gauge, blades can be supplied in a variety of tooth profiles in either swaged or HPG Stellite tipped.

Freud has developed its Hyper-Finish blades with vibration trapping. The blades are reported to eliminate vibration through a body design that yields the plat acoustically dead. Currently there are three blades in the series: the F410, a 10-in. blade with a 5/8-in. arbor and 40 alternate top bevel teeth; the F610, a 10-in. blade, 5/8-in. arbor and 60 triple chip ground teeth; and the F810, a 10-in. blade with 5/8-in. arbor and 80 high angle alternate top bevel teeth.
