Single Mode 100Base-T/F Media Converter Offers High Performance, Long Distance, Small Size and Low Cost.

GREENLAWN, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 29, 1998--Telebyte Technology Inc. (OTCBB-TBTI) is now introducing its Series 377 high performance, media converters for 100Base-T networks. These provide operation of long reach single-mode fiber circuits over distances up to 100 km, 62 miles.

The Series 377 Media Converters are designed to convert Ethernet 100Base-T signals for twisted pair copper transmission to light pulses appropriate for single-mode, duplex optical fiber transmission. These allow maximum utilization of the 100 MHz bandwidth. There is virtually no retransmission for lost or errored packets. The signaling utilizes duplex communication to eliminate the response problem in collision sensing. This is a major innovation since the response time over a long fiber network may exceed those normally allowed in half duplex communications. 100Base-T inputs are handled via the industry standard RJ-45 connector. LED indicators display the status of the fiber and copper circuits as well as an indicator of power.

The Model 377SC is the standard unit. This offers 100Base-T compatibility and 100 MBPS full duplex over single-mode fiber at 1300 nm. It employs an advanced Fabry-Perot laser with full IEC 825 and CDRH Class 1 eye safety. The Model 377SC provides operation over 35 km using SC connectors. The Model 377ST-1 offers the same functionality, but with improved performance, allowing operation over distances of 100 km, 62 miles of single-mode fiber using ST connectors.

Both units are packaged in metal containers whose size is 2" W x 3" L x 1" H (50.8 mm x 76.2 mm x 25.4 mm). Power is supplied from a wall adapter that produces 12 VDC. The Model 377SC, 32 km, sells for $949 each while the Model 377ST-1 sells for $1,850 each. Significant discounts are available for quantity purchases.
