The Olympic Handover celebration is being organised by the Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership for the 2012 Games, which aims to ensure the region makes the most of the opportunities presented by the games.

Among the highlights of the celebration will be a parade of past Olympians and Paralympians from Coventry and Warwickshire.

A successful appeal by the 2012 Partnership has already tracked down 70 former Olympians and Paralympians from the region.

Any others who have not yet been in touch and would like to take part in the event should phone Suki Rai on 024 7630 8242 or e-mail CWLegends@cswp.org.uk.

The event will also feature a street carnival carnival, communal celebration, especially the religious celebration in Catholic countries that takes place just before Lent. Since early times carnivals have been accompanied by parades, masquerades, pageants, and other forms of revelry that had their origins in  performance and a big screen showing the Olympic handover live from Beijing.
