Simon Celebrates Grand Opening of Mall of Georgia.


ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 30, 1999--

Simon Property Group Simon Property Group, Inc. (NYSE: SPG), also known as SIMON, an S&P 500 company headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, is the largest developer of shopping malls in the United States. Simon Property Group, Inc.  Inc., the nation's largest mall owner and manager, today announced plans for Mall of Georgia's three-day grand opening celebration beginning August 13, 1999.

Simon will welcome visitors with free concerts, prize giveaways, a butterfly launch and fireworks fireworks: see pyrotechnics.

 begin at 9:30 a.m., Friday, August 13, with a spectacular butterfly launch coinciding with the official ribbon-cutting ceremony. The moment the ribbon is cut, 4,000 Monarch butterflies will be released into the Nature Park adjacent to the mall. Mall of Georgia Mall of Georgia is an enclosed shopping mall in Buford, a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia, United States. Built in 1999, it is currently the largest shopping mall in the state of Georgia[1], comprising more than two hundred stores on three levels.  officially opens to shoppers at 10:00 a.m.

Shoppers will have the opportunity to win major prizes, valued from $500.00 to $2,500, every hour. The giveaways begin at 11:00 a.m. Friday and end at 8:00 p.m. Saturday during the grand opening weekend. At the start of each hour, shoppers may register to win prizes at several locations throughout the mall. Prizes are listed on the attached addendum.

Guests will be entertained Friday evening with a live performance by the Commodores followed by a fireworks display choreographed by the designer responsible for the memorable Star Spangled span·gle

The sailboat is provided by Galyan's and Southern Sailing. Eleven contestants will gather in the Food Court, with the winner announced at 4:00 p.m.

The Nissan Pathfinder, on display all weekend in the Mountain Court, is courtesy of Gwinnett Place Nissan and Star 94 FM radio station. All day Friday and Saturday, shoppers can register to win the vehicle. Two finalists will be chosen each day during the three-day grand opening weekend. At 4:30 p.m. Sunday, six finalists will receive a key. Only one winning key will start the Pathfinder.

Also on display opening weekend is a Chevrolet 2000 Impala impala, species of antelope, Aepyceros melampus, closely related to the gazelle and found in the savannah and bush country of E and S Africa. To become one of the 98 possible winners, shoppers can register at Mall of Georgia August 13-18, or can participate in a listen-and-win game on B98.5 FM now through Aug. 13. Ninety-eight qualifiers will receive a key. Finalists will test their keys at the Impala display on August 21. Mall of Georgia and Cable Advertising of Metro Atlanta give children the chance to meet their favorite cartoon characters. Instant keepsake photographs will be available with a $1.00 donation to the non-profit Simon Youth Foundation.
