Jim Benton's FRANNY K. STEIN: MAD SCIENTIST: THE FRAN FRAN Functional Reactive Animation  WITH FOUR BRAINS (1416902317, $14.95) is an inviting humor humor, according to ancient theory, any of four bodily fluids that determined man's health and temperament. Hippocrates postulated that an imbalance among the humors (blood, phlegm, black bile, and yellow bile) resulted in pain and disease, and that good health was  title blending black and white cartoons with science drama. Adding to the 'Mad Scientist' series is this exploration of Fran, who has problems with Igor, mummies, and more. Kids will find lots of fun and hilarious moments, here. Margaret Peterson Haddix's DEXTER THE TOUGH (1416911596, $15.99) tells of new kid Dexter, whose defense against being new is to assume a tough exterior confronting principal, janitor, and kids who laugh at him. His determination to handle family and school problems with a tough display will lead to trouble unless he modifies his approach in DEXTER THE TOUGH. Both are excellent leisure choices for advanced elementary into middle school grades.
