Kids will find Tamara Bower's How The Amazon Queen Fought The Price Of Egypt (068-9844344, $16.95) tells the lovely story of a queen who leads a race of free Amazon women, who live without men until an army of Egyptian soldiers invades their land. A curious prince invites the brave women to combat--but Serpot holds some surprises for him. A fine story of courage and creativity. Douglas Wood's What Grandmas Can't Do (0689-846479, $14.95) receives Doug Cushman's funny and zany alligator alligator, large aquatic reptile of the genus Alligator, in the same order as the crocodile. There are two species—a large type found in the S United States and a small type found in E China. Alligators differ from crocodiles in several ways.  embellishments as it tells of a grandmother's failings and strengths. Little alligator learns how to help his grandmother, and when to rely on her for strength--and some surprising situations evolve between the two in Douglas Wood's celebration of grandmothers and kids. Hilary McKay and Amanda Harvey's There's A Dragon dragon, mythical beast usually represented as a huge, winged, fire-breathing reptile. For centuries the dragon has been prominent in the folklore of many peoples; thus, its physical characteristics vary greatly and include combinations of numerous animals.  Downstairs (0689867743, $16.95) tells of a savvy Sophie who hears a dragon downstairs ever night.
