Simon's marathon sum.

TWENTY-SIX miles of gruelling running paid off for a community- spirited Rugby councillor when he handed over pounds 1,470 to a new Rugby club for disabled and able-bodied people.

Cllr Simon Anderson (Con, Brownsover) ran the London Marathon in April for the Physically Disabled and Able-Bodied Club (Phab), and his bosses at Barclays stumped up half the cash.

The club was reformed in May with a new team of officials. The first evening session will be held in September.

Andrea Elson of Rugby Phab said: "We're delighted with this money which will go a long way to helping set up the group and we're grateful to Cllr Anderson for choosing us as his chosen charity."
